Music with a Story

Some music is simply listened to; some music also tells a story. 2027 marks the centenary of Spain's Generation of '27, and Santiago de Compostela celebrates a new Holy Year: Lorca, the women poets of '27 and the songs of the pilgrims are finding their own place on stage again.

With that in mind, we have brought the MUSICA VIVA artists together in six programmes. Each one follows a thread audiences recognise at first sight —some verses, a road, roots, a city, rivers, centuries— and helps build a programme with meaning, and tell it.

Music in dialogue

They all share something more: music with roots, told in today's language. From the Baroque lute to flamenco piano, from Coimbra fado to the kora of Casamance, the artists move from one programme to another and talk to each other.
